webBlog™
A blog is
essentially a journal that is available on the web. Blogs are
different from forums or newsgroups because in a Blog, only the
author can create new subjects for discussion. Therefore a blog
is a website in which items are posted on a regular basis and
organized by category or in reverse chronological order. The
term blog is a shortened form of weblog or web log. Creating a
blog, maintaining a blog or adding an article to an existing
blog is called "blogging". Individual articles on a blog are
called "blog posts," "posts" or "entries". A person who posts
these entries is called a "blogger". The content generally
ranges from news or personal diaries, to political campaigns,
product ideas, media programs and comments which are posted on a
common web page.
A blog has certain
attributes that distinguish it from a standard web page. Blogs
are generally updated daily using software that allows people
with little or no technical background to update and maintain
the blog. It allows for easy creation of new pages - In most
cases new data is entered into a simple form (usually with the
title, the category and the body of the article) and then
submitted. It allows for easy processing of content for various
presentations: by date, category, author, or other attributes.
It usually allows the administrator to invite and add other
authors, whose permission and access are easily managed by the
owner.
Why do I need a
Blog?
It can be used as
a unique, informal way to:
Communicate with
suppliers, colleagues, existing or potential partners. Establish
a company or individual's reputation or brand. Showcase
industry/company news, introduce new products and services,
marketing promotions or provide helpful tips to customers.
Blogs make
business sites more personal. A blog gives that sense of talking
to a ‘real person’. Blogs make it fast and easy to manage
content, even the most html challenged person can start and
maintain a blog. Changing content means visitors always have a
reason to keep coming back to your site. Customers love to check
for what's new or what's different. Search engines such as
Google and Yahoo are ‘friendly' to sites that have fresh
content. Since search engines like regularly updated sites,
blogs tend to rank high in search results as opposed to static
websites that are hardly updated.
Therefore blogs
have an enormous marketing potential, company experts can start
a blog and become industry experts helping your company beat out
the competition. Blogs can also become a great tool to clear up
facts, doubts or any rumors spread by the competitors. Finally,
a blog created by a company employee expressing his opinions,
facts and comments about the company, products or related topics
gives the customer more confidence in the product or company.
Blogs are what’s
happening today; they are becoming ever more popular on the net
and are a trend that is growing rapidly.
